Do babies need probiotics?

Parenting FAQs

All babies will develop their own natural gut flora once they are born. Breast milk for example naturally contains beneficial bacteria that supports a baby's gut health. Negative influences on a baby’s gut flora development can include being born by c-section, or taking antibiotics, and in these instances, probiotics may be recommended.  Additionally, probiotics may be recommended for babies with specific health conditions, e.g. infant colic. However, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional to get the correct probiotic recommendation based on individual circumstances.
